I read somewhere once that humans can see more shades of green than any other color. If true, I imagine it's because we were meant to meander and lose ourselves in great big open green spaces. I also believe there is no better antidepressant than staring at mountains and smelling trees.
I have certainly noticed that my brain seems to be grinding less in the big wilds. It's a lot easier to turn a bad day into a good day when you can look at a few vistas :-)
You will DEFINITELY drink too much craft beer in Portland. Craft beer is the best thing about Portland! And I like a beer, ya know, maybe twice a year. But the beer in Portland is THE BEST. To get better beer you have to go to Belgium, and I don't think there are any rest stops in the Atlantic ocean!
I just love reading these!! I don’t actually know if I’ve seen the Columbia River Gorge- but it sure reminds me a lot of NorCal. Yea- the fires are partially why we moved. We lived at the base of the Sierra Nevadas and while they are one of the most beautiful places on earth, they burn every damn year.. it’s like living on Mars for half the summer- and sadly it’s just a matter of time before it’s your turn to have your house burned down. It sucks! But it’s amazing to visit. I keep telling myself maybe if I tried to settle somewhere more coastal it wouldn’t burn down? Still want to be old out there someday.
I'm also beginning to get the idea (actually it's been brewing for a while now) that you are going to HATE New York City! BUT you will love the southwest. make sure, before it gets too cold, to see Four Corners and the Grand Canyon. Merely a tiny taste of what is in store for you!

The beer here is off the charts. And I lived in Austin for a year!

Thanks for the laughs and the beautiful photos
Big fan of the espresso stands. There are/were some especially colorful ones. 😁
Thank you Ben, I literally laughed out loud and also teared up reading this.
Emotions!!! ( Plus one glass of wine.)
I miss your face but I'm so glad your face is in front of mountains and waterfalls and the land of forest. <3
