Gulliver, er, I mean Ben, take HWY 95 south out of Vegas and head to Joshua Tree, CA. Amazing ride and scenery. For a life changer, must be at night, hours after sunset, and when you find yourself alone from traffic, stop. Get out and lean back on the hood of your van and wait for your eyes to adjust. You will not only see the Milky Way like you've never seen it before, but you will see the billions of stars that Carl Sagan was always taking about.
I think of similar struggles in my own life as forms of inertia. Hard to start, but once I do it is equally hard to change direction, slow down, or stop.
AH, YES...the extreme temps of the desert! You'd be best advised to get that little heater you mentioned because it ain't gonna stop--it will tail you all the way through Nevada, Utah, southern Arizona and New Mexico, right up to Texas, where it can even be hot at night! And if you love the desert--you'll love Phoenix (flat as a pancake--but VERY hot during the day) and Tucson (incredibly beautiful, just as hot but cool at night). Surely the southern Arizona desert will provide you with many *beautiful* solitary parking places for weeks on end. California might be tough--even the south has SKADS of people. But those states: Utah, Arizona and New Mexico are some of the most beautiful states of the union. Watch out for scorpions!
As an only child who was often lonely, I am impressed by your ability to be alone so much. As a big city person, I don't feel safe when no one can hear you scream! (of course in NYC if people hear screaming they just think: "Another nutcase" and go about their business. In some ways (some good ways) NYC is the most private place there is because no one gives a shit what you are doing/wearing etc. as long as you don't bother THEM!)
I think of the extreme loneliness kind of like a sauna- it's uncomfortable, but good for me, and I'm sweating out a whole bunch of psychic impurities... But I don't want to be in here forever, lol! Part of me thinks it would be fun to get an apartment in some big city for a year after I get off the road- it'll be like jumping in the cold pool after the sauna! Shock to the system!

Well, now I know what direction I'm headed when I leave ;-)
Great suggestion!

"Sweating out psychic impurities"... Sherlock Holmes has a "mind palace", the Liar has a "mind shvitz"
Q: What's Ben doing out there in the desert?
A: Don't mind him, he's just sweating out his psychic inertia in his mind shvitz
🤣
LOL!
